After a stellar 2022/23 season where he scored 30 goals across all competitions, Rashford's form took a sudden dip in the current season and he has managed to score just six goals in 33 appearances.

Speaking to , Rooney as asked if he had much sympathy for Rashford's current troubles and replied: "Not much. I think he is in a privileged position, he is playing for Manchester United. I've said before, he is the one player, I really believe, can go and break my goalscoring records. I hope he does because he is a Manchester lad. But I think he needs to get some consistency. Of course, he is not having the best of seasons but he needs to find some form and consistency and become a leader in this team."
