Leeds United fans have been demanding that the club make a key financial decision this week after reports emerged surrounding the future of one of their loan stars.
According to Football Insider, the Championship leaders have to enact their permanent £5m option on goalkeeper Illan Meslier before a specific date otherwise parent club Lorient can renegotiate the terms involved.
It is believed that this deadline is sometime around mid-May and the source claims Leeds are likely to pay that fee regardless of the division they find themselves in next term.
And fans have been discussing the nature of this deal on social media, although the overriding opinion was that the decision-makers at the club should pay up as soon as possible.
Here’s what has been said…
Plenty of the Elland Road faithful wanted the deal to happen “ASAP” with one supporter brandishing it as a “no brainer” decision.
Meslier has only featured three times for Leeds all season, playing second fiddle to Kiko Casilla, but has managed to keep a 100% clean sheet record in the Championship, per Transfermarkt.
And with the Spaniard’s future in doubt, Marcelo Bielsa could well be in need of a regular number one next term irrespective of which division they’ll be competing in.
Some fans want Leeds to splash the £5m out as it’ll be a wise long-term investment as the Frenchman has “massive potential” whilst he was even lauded to be as good as Real Madrid stopper Thibaut Courtois.

Only time will tell whether or not the west Yorkshire outfit will enact the clause on the young 20-year-old whilst other reports emerged over the weekend suggesting that they were keen on also adding AFC Bournemouth glovesman Aaron Ramsdale, so maybe Elland Road will have a new goalkeeper duo come next season.
