The dramatic encounter in Merseyside saw the hosts take the lead through Mohamed Salah's strike but Alexader Isak soon equalised for the visitors. Then Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo scored in quick succession which almost sealed the fate of the game but Sven Botman's 81st-minute strike kept the Magpies' hopes alive of making a late comeback. Salah then scored an 86th-minute goal from the penalty spot to seal all three points for the league leaders.
